KAIVAYOPANISHAD MANTRAS

(MANTRAS FOR CHANTING)

Adheehi bhagavan brahmavidyaam varishtaam sadaa sadbhih sevyamaanaam nighoodhaam |

Yayaa achiraat sarva paapam vyapohya paraatparam purusham yaati vidvaan || 1 ||

Tasmai sa hovaacha pitaamahscha sraddhaa-bhakti-dhyaana-yogaadavai hi || 2||

*Na karmanaa na prajayaa dhanena tyaage-naike amritatvam-aanasuh |

Parena naakam nihitam guhaayaam vibhraajate yadyatayoe visanti || 3||

*Vedaanta-vijnaana-sunischitaarthaah sanyaasa-yogaad-ya tayah suddha-sattvaah |

Te brahmalokeshu paraanta-kaale paraamritaat-parimuchyanti sarve || 4 ||

Viviktadese cha sukhaasana-sthah suchih sama-greeva-sareerah |

Atyaasrama-sthah sakalendriyaani nirudhya bhaktyaa svagurum pranamya |

Hrit-pundareekam virajam visuddham vichintya madhye visadam visokam || 5 ||

Achintyam–avyaktam-ananta-roopam sivam prasaantam-amritam brahma-yonim |

Tathaa-adi-madhyaanta-viheenam-ekam vibhum chidaanandam-aroopam-adbhutam || 6||

Umaa-sahaayam parmesvaram prabhum trilochanam neelakantham prasaantam |

Dhyaatvaa munir-gachchati bhoota-yonim samasta-saakshim tamasah parastaat || 7 ||

*Sa brahmaa sa sivah sendrah so-aksharah parmah svaraat |

Sa eva vishnuh sa praanah sa kaalo-agnih sa chandramaah || 8||

Sa eva sarvam yad bhootam yaccha bhavyam sanaatanam |

Jnaatvaa tam mrityum-atyeti naanyah panthaa vimuktaye || 9 ||

Sarva-bhoota-stham-aatmaanam sarva-bhootaani chaatmani |

Sampasyan brahma paramam yaati naan-yena hetunaa || 10 ||

Aatmaanam-aranim kritvaa pranavam chottara-aranim |

Jnaana-nirmathana-abhyaasaat paasam dahati panditah || 11 ||

Sa eva maayaa paramo-hitaatmaa sareeram-aasthaaya karoti sarvam |

Stry-anna-paanaadi-vichitra-bhogaih sa eva jaagrat-pari-triptim-eti | | 12 ||

Svapne sa jeevaah sukha–dukha-bhoktaa sva-maayayaa kalpita-jeevaloke |

Sushupti-kaale sakale vileene tamo-abhibhootah sukha-roopam-eti ||13 ||

Punascha janmaantara-karma-yogaat sa eva jeevah svapiti prabuddhah |

Pura-traye kreedita yascha jeevah tatastu jaatam sakalam vichitram |

Aadhaaram-aanandam-akhanda-bodham yasmim-llayam yaati pura-trayam cha ||14 ||

Etasmaaj-jaayate praano manah sarva indriyaani cha |

Kham vaayur-jyotir-aapah prthivee visvasya dharinee ||15||

Yat-param brahma sarvaatmaa visvasyaa-yatanam mahat |

Sookshmaat-sookshmataram nityam tat-tvameva tvameva tat ||16 ||

Jaagrat-svapna-sushuptyaadi-prapancham yat-prakaasate |

Tad-brahma-iti Jnaatvaa sarva-bahdhaih pramuchyate || 17 ||

Trishu dhaamasu yad-bhogyam bhoktaa bhogas-cha yad-bhavet |

Tebhyo vilakshanah saaksee chin-maatro-aham sadaasivah || 18 ||

Mayyeva sakalam jaatim mayi sarvam pratishtitam |

Mayi sarvam layam yaati tad-brahmaa-dvayam asmy-aham || 19 ||

Anor-aneeyan-ahav-eva tadvan mahaan-aham visvam-aham vichitram |

Puraatano-aham purusho–aham eeso | hiramnmayo-aham sivaroopam-asmi || 20||

Apaani-paado-aham achintya saktih pasyaamy-achakshuh sa srinomy-akarnah |

Aham vijaanaami vivikta-roopo na chaasti vettaa mama chit-sadaa-aham ||21 ||

Vedair-anekair-aham-eva vedyo vedaanta-krid-veda-vid-eva chaaham |

Na punya-paape mama naasti naaso na janma dehendriya buddhir-asti || 22||

Na bhoomir-aapo na cha vahnir-asti na cha-anilo me-asti na cha-ambaram cha |

Evam viditvaa parmaatma-roopam guhaasayam nishkalam-adviteeyam ||23 ||

Samasta-sakshim sad-asad-viheenam prayaati suddham parmaatma-roopam || 25 ||

+Phala Praapti (Attainment of benefits)

Yah satarudreeyamadheete soagnipooto bhavati : suraa-paanaat pooto bhavati; brahmahatyaat pooto bhavati; Krityaa-krityaat-pooto bhavati; tasmaad-avimuktam-aasrito bhavati; atyaasramee sarvadaa sakridvaa japet || (Phala praapti—1)

Anena jnaanam-aapnoti samsaaraarnava-naasanam | tasmaad-evam viditvainam kaivalyam phalam-asnute kaivlayam phalam-asnuta iti || (Phala Praapti—2)


 

*These mantras are also found in Mahaa Naarayana Upanishad.

+ At the close of this Upanishad these two mantras are included detailing attainment of benefits by the chanting of this Satarudreeyam for psychological encouragement of the chanter. You do not find these Phalasrutis in earlier Upanishads but are found in later Upanishads like Narayanopanishat, Ganapaty-atharva-seershopanishat etc. It is customary to add Phalasrutis in slokas (devotional songs or hymns) only.
